Welcome

Hello and welcome to my website. I am standing to become your new Powys County Councillor and Town Councillor for Llanidloes. Thank you for visiting to read about who I am, what I do, and why I want to represent Llanidloes in this way. If you have any unanswered questions after reading through this site then please contact me.

Though not born in Llanidloes (my parents moved here from Kent when I was 3 years' old) I was educated here and have spent the majority of my working life in Llanidloes.

I am currently the Project Development Officer for L.L.A.N.I. Ltd, the local community regeneration company for Llanidloes and District. L.L.A.N.I. Ltd is a private, not for profit company, which has a voluntary board of directors drawn from the Llanidloes area. Though we are based in the Town Hall we are completely independent of the Town Council and we serve the whole of the greater Llanidloes area. Our aim is to develop projects and, increasingly, social enterprise opportunities that bring both economic and social benefits to the community. In my time with the company during the last five years, I have been responsible for securing in excess of £550,000 worth of grant funding for Llanidloes. You can find more information on some of the projects I have been involved in by following the my work link on the left hand side of the page.

I also have a number of voluntary (i.e. unpaid) commitments with many different Committees and Associations in Llanidloes.

  • I am a Trustee of LLES Ltd (Llanidloes Energy Solutions) the local environmental group campaigning for positive local measures to combat Climate Change.
  • I am the Treasurer of the Llanidloes and District Community Transport Scheme (otherwise known as Dial-a-Ride).
  • I am the Secretary of the Llanidloes Twinning Association. I like to think I speak fluent French – though some of our friends from Llanidloes’ twin town, Derval, might struggle to agree!
  • Together with Cllr. Peter (Benji) Rees, I organise the Llanidloes Fancy Dress. This year will be our fourth year in charge.
  • I am the Treasurer of the Sabrina Walk Committee, organisers of the Sarn Sabrina and Semi Sabrina walking events, which will be run for a third year in May. This year we are well on our way to attracting in excess of 100 participants.
  • I am in my second year as a member of the Llanidloes Carnival Committee. Under the mistaken belief that I have artistic ability, I have landed the job of designing the Queen’s float.
  • I am a member of the Llanidloes Education Industry Forum.
  • I am a sometime member of the Llanidloes Air Day Committee (when we can persuade the RAF to schedule a Red Arrows display over Llanidloes!)

My role with L.L.A.N.I. Ltd is paid, but I have often worked for the company in my free time – for example, leading walks during the Festival of the Great Outdoors, or attending meetings of the After School Club Committee. In my capacity as Development Officer, I also provide the secretariat to the Llanidloes & District Community Forum.

In my spare time I like to study history, particularly the French Revolution and Napoleonic period. I have also been known to write rhyming verse – if you can stand it, you can find an example here!

FACT: Our current County Councillor has not had to fight an election in 13 years. Powys County Council can find no record of Town Council elections in the last 20 years. I strongly believe that voters in Llanidloes should have a choice and that it is time for new ideas and ways of working.
